The title of the 'Me I Want To Be' painting was a result of the painting process. It seemed to name itself. The overall feeling I have about this dynamic project is that it has brought out a light shedding moment NOT on the weakness of victims but on the deep inner strength of the 'overcomers'. The survivor/overcomer becomes the Mighty Oak. That is the journey of self empowerment. The Mighty Oak Tree symbology is vast. She is the goddess tree and the Celtic Tree of Life. Her roots go as deep as her branches grow tall. As above, so below is the meaning of the Golden Ratio or Golden Mean. Phi, or the Golden Mean establishes that the small is to the large as the large is to the middle. According to Aristotle, the Golden Mean is the desirable middle between two extremes, one of excess, and the other deficiency. To the Greek mentality, it was an attribute of Beauty. For a visual aid for the non-math-inclined, visualize the nautilous shell. Phi is a special number approximately equal to 1.618. It appears in geometry, art, architecture, and other areas. I incorporated the Golden Mean in the 'Me I Want To be' painting in dimension and spacial use. In Celtic tradition, the Mighty Oak holds the true alignment of the three roots: purpose, strength, and balance. The word for oak in Gaelic is 'duir', meaning 'door'.
When I met the Survivor I was partnered with, she told me her story and I took some notes. One of the magical moment happened when she mentioned the oak tree as an image that represents to her the 'Me I Want To Be' painting, this being of strength and beauty, amongst many other attributes. The magic is that I had been immersing myself in the beauty of the nearby oak stands. I had already been researching the oak tree and its symbology. I had even started a painting of a nearby oak stand. I painted these paintings always with her in mind. I kept a strong intention in mind of healing for her, healing for me, healing for all. I did not intend to paint exactly what it became. I see it now as a badge honoring this woman's life and her inner and outer achievements. This painting speaks to me that she deserves a badge, yes, but even more she deserves a personal Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms of the Mighty Oak Clan!
